picture from last fall, it’s greener now, but the tractor looks evil in this pic....
The Zetor has a cable actuated clutch with about a 150-200lb press. I made 75 round bales today, and then moved them into stacks with the same tractor. My left knee is beat to shit. Does anyone have any experience with hydraulic clutch conversions? This is thing is brutal. I almost wish I got a tractor with an electro-hydraulic clutch/reverser....

In my experience , Porsche clutches are like that. So it sounds like you’ve got a Porsche. What’s its ring time?

Well, top speed at rev-limit is 26.3MPH, I think it can probably sustain that speed through every corner... well, most of them... it is a bit top-heavy, so some of the tighter ones might require slowing down... In any case, the math says it should have a ‘Ring time of about 38 minutes...

Just move the rev limiter like the McLaren F1, I’m sure you can get a sub-8 minute time.

What kind of asshole builds anything with a clutch requiring 200lbs of force to depress? I know farmers are largely unrecognized badasses, but that is a bit ridiculous of an ask.

I wish I had a tractor

probably needs a bigger turbo. It’s a 4.2-liter 4cyl diesel, but it’s got a pretty small turbo. It’s running nearly full boost by 1500 RPM, and I think it really runs out of breath above 2800 RPM...

That seems unreasonably hard.
TWSS.
Add a vacuum booster.
Good luck!

Hydrostatic could be your best friend.
Granted at what size are they no longer available? That thing looks big. Mines 26hp...

Hydrostatic typically doesn’t go bigger than 50-ish HP, This is 80 (82 actually, but the model is Major 80) it also saps PTO power, but the non-megabucks option is an electro-hydraulic clutch, and I have hate every one I have ever driven. The clutch pedal is literally just an on off switch, and the computer controls engagement and take-up. I hear the better ones do an OK job, but the cheaper machines I have tried all suck. Hard. I would not want to depend on how the computer actuates the clutch. The older medium-size Zetors all used to have hydraulic clutches, so the pedal effort wasn’t so bad (the bigger ones without the Electro-hydraulic option still have hydraulic clutches), but the Major 80 uses a Carraro transaxle with a cable clutch :P It saves a bunch of money, but it really is beastly to use as a loader machine or depress while tieing a bale.

Turbo diesel. No vacuum. though I could add an air pump I guess... that’s an idea. hmmmm....

Good to know. Hopefully you’re not doing work like that all the time!

I have nothing constructive to add and live in suburbia, but am enjoying the uptick in tractor posts across Oppo.

Is there a different pulley or torque arm that could be installed to increase the mechanical advantage? Seems like it’d be cheaper but I haven’t a clue to things like packaging
![]() 06/19/2019 at 22:51 |

Pedal packaging is pretty tight, but theres a bu ch of room on the transmission end... A longer torque arm might be doable...

Its probably closer to 150... But those Czech engineers seem to think doing one-leg squats all day is fun.

Gotta go that extra mile ( kilometer?) to impress the Czech women I guess.

I’d sure as hell do some extreme things to impress Czech women. Damn.

Be very careful what you wish for...

OK that sucks. Hydraulic packaging on that would mean there’d be more grief than success in my experience. Going with mechanical advantage might be a better outcome. Makes me thankful the MF 65 clutch is a short mechanical path to a cliff of actuality !
